My Campaign

My platform is about keeping West Vancouver home - for the people who live here today and for the generations that follow. I want to help create more opportunities for young families and seniors to stay in our community, support the local businesses that bring life to our neighbourhoods, and make better use of our incredible waterfront.

I believe we should invest thoughtfully in sport, recreation, and the infrastructure we rely on every day, while being disciplined with taxpayer dollars and looking for efficiencies before increasing costs.

Most importantly, I believe Council needs to listen before it acts - engaging residents and businesses early and making decisions together with the community, not simply informing people after the fact.

Keeping West Vancouver Home

As a lifelong West Vancouver resident, I believe no one should have to leave the community they grew up in simply because there isn’t a housing option that works for them.

We need more choice, including attainable housing for younger generations, as well as appropriate options for seniors and downsizers. Thoughtful housing options can allow families to stay connected across generations while respecting the character of our neighbourhoods.

Supporting Small Businesses

As a retail business owner and Board Chair of the Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association, I see firsthand the challenges facing our commercial areas. Local businesses are the heart of our villages. They create jobs, bring people together and contribute to the character that makes West Vancouver special. I want our municipality to actively support them and make our community a place where businesses want to invest. Some ways to support include:

Faster and Simpler Approvals

I want to reduce unnecessary red tape and make municipal permitting faster, clearer and more predictable. Business owners who invest their savings in our community should not have to wait months to open their doors.

A Stronger Voice for Small Businesses

Some of the biggest challenges facing local businesses come from provincial regulations. I will work with other municipalities and advocate for practical changes when provincial policies create unnecessary barriers or unintended consequences.

Attention to Rising Costs

Commercial property taxes can be roughly three times higher than residential property taxes. These costs are often passed on to businesses through rent and triple net leases. I want Council to consider how its decisions affect businesses already managing significant operating pressures.

Vibrant and Welcoming Villages

Empty storefronts do not create thriving commercial areas. I want West Vancouver to attract the retailers, restaurants, services and entrepreneurs our community needs while keeping our villages clean, safe, accessible and welcoming.

Working With Business Associations

Our business associations understand what is happening on our commercial streets. I will listen to them, work closely with them and support their advocacy when local businesses need a strong voice at Municipal Hall or with the provincial government.

Small businesses are more than storefronts. They are our neighbours, employers, volunteers and community partners. I want to create an environment where they feel supported and can continue contributing to the life of West Vancouver.

Bringing our Waterfront to Life

West Vancouver has an extraordinary public waterfront, but too much of it remains underused. I believe we can make it a more welcoming and vibrant place without large buildings or major development. The success of Batch at Ambleside shows what thoughtful ideas can achieve. I want to build on that momentum with simple, attractive amenities and seasonal activities designed primarily for West Vancouver residents. Some examples include:

More Places to Gather

Add picnic tables, seating, and comfortable spaces where residents can relax, meet friends, and enjoy the waterfront.
Seasonal Food and Local Markets
Welcome small pop-up food vendors, local artisans, and temporary markets that give residents new reasons to visit throughout the year.

Music and Community Events

Explore a modest outdoor stage for local musicians, small performances, and community programming beyond the Harmony Arts Festival.

A Waterfront for Every Season

Consider seasonal experiences such as a Christmas market with local vendors, food, music, lights, and family activities.

Connect the Waterfront and Our Villages

Make it easier and more inviting for waterfront visitors to walk into Ambleside, enjoy a meal, shop locally or meet for coffee.

My goal is simple: create a waterfront that feels active, welcoming and connected to the community while preserving the character that makes it special.

Investing in Sports & Recreation

I believe West Vancouver should aspire to have a world-class sports and recreation facility where children, families, and athletes can participate, train, and compete close to home. Here is my vision:

More Ice for Our Community

Our existing ice facilities are under significant pressure. I want us to seriously explore adding more sheets of ice so families are not turned away or forced to travel outside West Vancouver.

A Facility for More Than Hockey

I support exploring a modern complex that provides space for hockey and skating while also serving a broader range of sports, recreation programs, and community activities.

A Responsible Plan

I will work with senior government officials, sporting organizations, community groups, and the private sector to determine how this facility could be financially viable and achievable.

My goal is to create a lasting community destination that supports active living and serves West Vancouver for generations.

Fixing the Basics

Infrastructure should be a priority. Our streets and sidewalks need attention, and small improvements such as these can make a big difference:

Repair sidewalk tripping hazards before someone gets hurt
Keep storm drains clear to reduce winter water pooling
Improve street markings to make parking clearer
Maintain roads, sidewalks, and public spaces
Keep our commercial areas clean, safe, and welcoming

These aren’t always expensive projects. They are about paying attention and getting the basics right.

Responsible Spending & Lower Municipal Costs

I believe West Vancouver residents deserve responsible financial management. Before raising taxes, fees or charges, we should take a close look at how the municipality is spending the money it already collects:

Review Municipal Spending

I support regular reviews of municipal programs, contracts, fees, and administrative costs to ensure they provide meaningful value to the community.

Eliminate Low Value Fees

Not every fee should continue simply because it has always existed. I would examine fees such as dog licensing, along with the costs of their collection and enforcement, to determine whether they are worthwhile.

Make Municipal Services More Efficient

I want to simplify municipal processes, reduce unnecessary administrative burdens, and identify efficiencies before asking residents to pay more.

Focus on the Essentials

Municipal spending should prioritize core services, infrastructure, and the everyday needs of our community.

Responsible financial management does not mean cutting important services. It means making thoughtful choices, spending carefully and ensuring taxpayers receive value for every dollar.

Listening, not just Informing

Residents and businesses deserve a meaningful voice in decisions that affect them. I would advocate for the return of a Community Engagement Committee, a dedicated group of community volunteers who could review community-focused initiatives before they reach Council. Better engagement can lead to better decisions.

The experience with pay parking in Ambleside Park demonstrated what can happen when residents and businesses feel they are being informed rather than genuinely engaged. West Vancouver needs a Council that listens first, engages early, and works collaboratively with the community.
